Second Blog : Present Physics Tools_English For Physics Teacher




The second topic in english for physics teacher course, we studied how to present physics tools. Actually at the time, I never present about physics tools in english. It was my new challenge. At the time, I confused what kind of tool should I presented. So, I went to Mr. Anang’s room, and I attracted to vernier caliper.
I browsed about vernier caliper, such as how to use it, the function, and parts of vernier caliper, I felt I was ready to present this tool. I didn’t know if I should enrolled my tool in BIF’s Group on WhatsApp, because I didn’t turn my mobile phone on for a long the day at the time. So when I arrived in my boarding house and turned my mobile phone on, there were a lot of WA messages that talked about chosen tools. One of the chosen tool was vernier caliper which was enrolled by Novia. So I should change my tool.
In the next day I went to Mr.Anang’s room and I found something attracted me, that was slinky. I enrolled my tool in BIF’s Group in WhatsApp quickly, fortunetely there waren’t others used this tool. So after I enrolled it, I browsed about slinky, such as how to use it and the function.
The day for perform had comed. Mr.Khusaini gave us new rule for assessment, that was peer assessment, we should assess our friends’ performance in WA group. We assessed in some aspects, there were: content, communication clarity, and interaction with the audiences.
After I studied this topic, I got some new knowledges, about how to describe and explain physics tools in english (vernier caliper and slinky). I also got new knowledge in peer assessment.
According to my opinion, by peer assessment in WA group, there were advantages and there was disadvantage. These are the advantages :
1.  We could assess each other with some rubrics and criterias that could make us strove to give the best performance
2.  Made us become responsible to our learning proccess
3.  Tought us how to give and receive feedback from our friends quickly
4.  Easy to access, because most of us already have WA account
Beside those advantages, there was only one disadvantage according to my opinion :
1.   It was not completely objective assessment, because in WA group there are sender’s name, so if we gave real assessment (objectively), it would be broke our fraternization undirectly.
So overall, by this new method in assessment, that is peer assessment, it gave us more advantages and it will be better if this method is keep going on with an improvement in objectivity aspect.
I hope in the next time, I can explain or describe more physics tools in english better than before. Beside that, I hope I can assess and be assessted better than before.

First Blog : How to Comprehend and Present Article_English For Physics Teacher



       "English for Physics Teacher" is my second class that I join in physics department of State University of Malang. At first time, in first semester, I joined english class for "English for Physics" course. After the end of first semester, my english application was decrease, until I joined an organization, Nucleon English Club, I felt that I found my enthusaism to study and share physics in english. But, because of lecture activity, I couldn't focus in this organization, my priority and my responsibility is lecture. In fifth semester long holiday, I came to academic guide lecturer, that is Mr. Sutopo. He gave me some international trend topic physics education articles. In first time, I felt difficult to comprehend them, because at the time, my english was less application, moreover I ever felt difficult when I should comprehended physics topic from english physics text books or articles.
       Fortunetely, in sixth semester, there is an optional course, that is "English for Physics Teacher". After I enroled this class, about a week later, the class begin. I felt that I reviv, because I can study english again after for along time I didn't apply and improve my english. In second meeting, we studied about how to comprehend article. We learned it in group that consist of two persons. My parter was Icha Suchiyarni. We got an article, the title was "Using the FCI to Monitor Student Learning and Plan Teaching". Firstly, Icha and I felt difficult in comprehend this article, because the vocabulary is scientific. As the time going on, we tried to comprehend this article by browsed in internet and discussed with other group that had same topic, but different title, beside that we also asked about FCI to the lecturer, Mr. Khusaini.
       In the next meeting, Mr. Khusaini gave us some tricks how to comprehend and understand fully what's the article goal, and he gave us trick how to find the main idea of the article without read it fully. He also gave us trick how to present well and correctly, such as the using of font, just the main words are written in powerpoint, how to interact with audiences such as eye movement (look at the all audiences' eye), stand in front and center of the class, etc.
       After I learned this topic, especially the tricks, I expect in the future I can comprehend english text book well, for literature source because it can give us wide window of knowledge.
